Keeping the Village Litter-Free
Every day, thousands of people walk around Carmel-by-the-Sea. Locals and visitors crowd our sidewalks, streets, parks, and our beach. Whether intentional or not, all kinds of litter ends up on the ground all over town and on the sand at the beach. Some of us try to help by picking up litter and, inspired by those dedicated Carmelites we have created the Pick Up Posse to organize a team that will help to make Carmel-by-the-Sea “Litter-Free”, forever.

It is our goal to make sure we are keeping our town beautiful, safe, and inviting and making sure there is no litter accomplishes all three. You’ll see them around town with their Carmel Cares T-shirts, blue buckets, and pick up claws picking up cigarette butts on street corners and disposing of half-full coffee cups. You’ll see them coming up the steps at the beach with full buckets and walking along Scenic Pathway. But they are more than trash picker-uppers. You’ll also see them acting as ambassadors for Carmel by assisting visitors with directions and making restaurant recommendations.
