I am a Lifetime member of the Carmel Residents Association. Prior to deciding to work full-time in building Carmel Cares into a non-profit, I had a column in the CRA’s Voice newsletter called Carmel Cruising. It portrayed our lives in Carmel as if we lived on a cruise ship. My wife Margaret and I used to go on long cruises and were planning on doing more. However, after we moved to Carmel-by-the-Sea full-time, every time we go to sign up for one we would say “the cruise ships come here, why are we taking a cruise and leaving this beautiful place?”
Well, we decided to look at life in Carmel as if we were on a perpetual vacation. We started going out to lunch every day. We started exploring going to our piano bar at Mission Ranch. We would go to shows at Sunset Center and Forest Theater. And, so on. Turns out, there an unlimited number of things to do, places we’d walked by hundreds of times but had never stepped inside and many great people to get to know at places like the Cypress Inn’s dog-friendly bar. So, Tuesday’s became our Cypress Inn nights. And, so on. And, there are a lot of “and, so on’s” in this crazy little town.
We are a bit busy now getting Carmel Cares going but we plan on sharing stories of things that we and other Carmelites enjoy doing in this part of our website. Stay tuned for some fun stuff! In the meantime, we are always looking for ideas so don’t be afraid to send us your thoughts to CarmelCares1@gmail.com.
